You are watching: How to fix a virus in Windows 8

Windows 11 may be the latest and greatest desktop operating system, but this new operating system is known to contain a number of unusual issues that we expect to see in the first few months after its release. Windows 11 Issues are reported by Windows users. The good news is that almost all problems that arise can be easily fixed, and in this article we’ll show you exactly how to do that.

Although Windows 11 was released in October, this is still the first days of the life of any operating system, and therefore we see a number of problems encountered by users while trying to upgrade from Windows 10. While some users have been experiencing ongoing issues since they upgraded, most people report encountering Windows 11 issues that are pretty quick to fix.

If you are not already on this operating system, you can check our easy-to-follow instructions on how to download and install Windows 11. We’ve been monitoring this system since it was released, so we’re very knowledgeable about both the problems and the solutions. If you encounter any problems after downloading and installing Windows 11, you can overcome them by carefully reading and following our troubleshooting tips and tricks below.

One of the most common Windows problems people face is not being able to upgrade to Windows 11 due to the set of operating system requirements. This operating system requires a modern processor, which will likely need to be purchased after 2018. If your laptop is older than this, we recommend investing in one of the best Windows laptops, or for those of you who prefer to use a PC, get a PC that will meet the windows 11 system requirements

Routine Windows 11 problems include computers with modern AMD processors where the operating system is incredibly slow or freezing, memory problems, the start menu is unresponsive, and there is a noticeable drop in performance, especially when playing games. The good news is that there are fixes for all of this. and we explain them in detail below.

WINDOWS 11 PROBLEMS

How to fix Windows 11 installation problems

If you’re having trouble installing Windows 11 with Windows 10’s update tool, don’t panic. Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter that can help identify problems. This may also reset the Windows Update application, which can help initiate the installation.

To do this, click the Start menu, then click the gear icon on the left, which will open the Settings window. Click ‘Update & Security’ and then ‘Troubleshoot’. Click “Windows Update”, then “Run the troubleshooter” and follow the instructions and click “Apply this fix” if the troubleshooter finds a solution.

Check Windows 11 system requirements

To install or ensure proper operation of Windows 11, you must ensure that your computer matches the following Windows 11 minimum system requirements:

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with at least two cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or SoC
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB
  • System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot feature
  • TPM: Trusted Platform Module 2.0
  • Graphics Card:  DirectX 12 or higher with WDDM 2.0 driver
  • Display: 720p, 8 bits per color channel, at least 9 inches diagonal
  • Internet Connection and Microsoft Account: Windows 11 Home requires an active internet connection and a Microsoft Account to complete the first-time setup of the operating system or when switching a device from Windows 11 Home in S mode.

These are the minimum features required to run Windows 11, but we recommend installing it on a more powerful device for the best Windows 11 experience. The 4GB RAM requirement is particularly low – we wouldn’t recommend trying to run Windows 11 on any device with less than 8GB of RAM. In terms of performance, you will have a very low experience.

Windows 11 compatibility check

If your system meets the criteria outlined above, you should perform a health check to keep your system ready to install Windows 11.

  • To run the health check, you must first download and install Microsoft’s PC Health Check .
  • Run the program after it’s installed
  • Click the blue “Check Now” button in the Windows 11 banner
  • If your system is compatible, you will get a popup that says “This PC will run Windows 11”.

Windows 11 May Not Work due to TPM

If Microsoft’s Windows 11 upgrade controller tells you that your computer is not supported but meets all other requirements, you need to check your BIOS to enable the TPM.

Almost every modern CPU comes with TPM support. If you have Intel CPU you need to switch to TPM and for AMD check PSP fTPM in BIOS. Once complete, you can run Microsoft’s health checker app to confirm the status. This should allow Windows 11 to install.

You can check the status of TPM support on your PC by doing the following:

  • Press Windows key + R
  • When the box appears, type tpm.msc
  • to open the Trusted Platform Module Management window.
    See a subwindow titled

  • TPM Manufacturer Information and look under Specification Version to see which TPM version your device has.

How to upgrade to Windows 11 without TPM 2.0

< /h2>

If you cannot install Windows 11 because your computer does not have TPM 2.0, you will receive an error message when trying to install that your computer does not meet the Windows 11 system requirements.

If that happens and you still want to install Windows 11, there is a way to circumvent the TPM requirement, but this should only be done by people who are confident about the risks involved.

This is a complex process, so read our How to upgrade to Windows 11 without TPM 2.0 guide for a full summary, including a look at the risks involved.

Free up Disk Space for Windows 11

As with previous operating systems, Windows 11 requires a certain amount of hard disk space to download and install successfully. If your main hard drive (usually the C: drive where Windows 10 is installed) is nearly full, you’ll run into problems trying to install Windows 11.

Windows 11 requires 64GB of storage.

So the first thing you should do if the Windows 11 installation fails is to check your drive space in Windows Explorer. If you’re running out of space, try typing “Disk Cleanup” in the taskbar search box and select the system disk (usually the C: drive).

Click ‘OK’ and then select the checkboxes of the files you want to delete. These should be safe to remove, but remember that once they’re gone you can’t get them back. You will be told how much space you will save. Click ‘OK’ and then ‘Delete files’ to remove the files. If you want to create more space, click ‘Clean up system files’. or manually delete the unnecessary files on the C drive, free up space for yourself.

Once this is done, try downloading and installing Windows 11 again.

Disable anti-virus software

It is among the most common windows 11 problems. Having antivirus software is certainly helpful, but it can sometimes cause problems when trying to install Windows 11.

If you have an antivirus installed on your computer, try disabling it before trying to install Windows 11 as it may fix the problem. You should then enable it and use it normally after the installation is complete.

You may even need to temporarily remove the software. Be sure to reinstall after the update is successfully installed.

Internet slows down after upgrading to Windows 11

Some Users reported slow internet speed after installing Windows 11

Movie streaming, VPNs, and general internet browsing can be slow and seem to affect people using Intel Killer hardware.

Microsoft is aware of this issue and has addressed it by releasing a Windows 11 cumulative update on October 12 to fix the issue. If there is an internet speed problem on your Windows 11 computer, check if past updates are installed on your system. If it is not installed, definitely install the updates.

Until then, you can try using an external USB Wi-Fi dongle if available.

Cannot search Windows 11 Start Menu

There is currently an issue that prevents typing in the new Start Menu search bar. There are other ways to search in Windows 11, but for anyone who brought this habit with them from a previous operating system, it’s a nuisance to change.

Microsoft has also acknowledged the issue, stating that opening the Run window will allow you to type in the search bar again. You can do this by pressing Win+R on your keyboard and and when it appears you can turn it off as you don’t actually need to type or run anything. Turning the program on and off seems to fix the search box issue.

It’s unclear when we can expect a patch to officially fix the bug, but given that this is a rather odd workaround, something more permanent may be in the works right now.

File Explorer still looks like Windows 10

Some people complain that after upgrading to Windows 11, File Explorer still looks the same as in Windows 10.

This is actually a skin that replicates the old Windows 10 layout, but it’s not clear why some users have it by default. Fortunately, there is a simple fix:

  • Select ‘View’ at the top of the File Explorer taskbar
  • Select ‘Options’ on the far right and go to the next ‘View’
  • You should now see a list. Look for the option that says ‘Start folder windows in a separate process’. Make sure the box next to it is unchecked
  • Apply the changes. File Explorer should now initiate a reboot

After the File Explorer restarts, you should now see the redesigned layout for Windows 11.

Widgets panel appears empty

The Widgets dashboard is a new part of Windows 11 that houses small applications known as ‘Widgets’ that provide quick access to information such as news and events in your calendar.

However, some people noticed that the Widgets panel appears blank (it can be opened by swiping from the left side of the screen or by pressing Windows + W on your keyboard).

To fix this, click the icon in the upper right corner of the Widgets panel, then click ‘Sign Out’.

Then, log in again and the Widgets are visible again.

Windows 11 Memory issues

There are reports that a Windows 11 memory leak issue is causing File Explorer to eat RAM, which can cause memory issues that slow down the operating system after a while.

Microsoft has yet to acknowledge this issue, but there is a workaround. Restart File Explorer (in Task Manager, you’ll find Windows Explorer listed as a process and if you click on it, there’s a ‘Restart’ button at the bottom right) or restart your computer.

In Task Manager, you can also see how much memory File Explorer is consuming here.

Windows 11 Start menu not responding

Some users have given feedback that their Start menu no longer works after upgrading to Windows 11.

If this happens while using Windows 11, try restarting your computer. With the Start menu disabled, you can do this by switching to the Windows 11 desktop by pressing Windows Key + D on your keyboard and then Alt + F4. A window will open and you can select ‘Restart’ and click ‘OK’.

If the Start menu is unresponsive after a reboot, you may need to use the DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) tools.

To do this, press Windows Key + R to open the Run box and type:

cmd

Then press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open Command Prompt with Administrator privileges (you will need to run these tools).

Enter the following at the Command Prompt:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This should clear any corrupted files from the Windows 11 upgrade and may take some time.

When complete, enter the following text into the Command Prompt:

sfc /scannow

Press Enter on your keyboard and the tool will scan to check if all files are correct. Once done, your Start menu should work again.

If that doesn’t work, some people have resolved the issue by creating a new user account on the computer and using it. However, this is not an ideal method, so we hope that Microsoft will release a fix for this Windows 11 issue soon.

Poor Windows 11 performance with AMD processors

Windows 11 reduces gaming performance on some computers with AMD processors, and people complain that they see up to 15% decrease in gaming performance after installing the new operating system.

This is obviously a big concern, especially as Microsoft is touting how good Windows 11 will be for gaming. The good news is that there is a fix for AMD Windows 11 performance bugs now available – here’s how to download it.

There are two fixes listed on AMD’s website. The first addresses the issue where functional L3 cache latency is increased in some applications. For this issue, Microsoft has released a new Windows 11 software update KB5006746 that you should download and install. You can do this through the Windows Update application in Windows 11.

AMD has also released a The Chipset Driver package has also been released.

If you have a modern AMD CPU and you have found that your computer’s performance has been affected by installing Windows 11, be sure to apply both of these updates; this process usually solves your problem.

Unable to download apps from Microsoft Store

Another problem that people face in Windows 11 is they cannot download any apps or games from Microsoft Store (formerly Windows Store). If you are one of them, check whether you are signed in to your Microsoft account, whether your date and time setting is correct, whether you have a valid license, etc. you need to check.

Windows 11 Slow boot time

It’s important to manage startup programs in Windows 11/10/8/7 that you don’t need to start every time your Windows boots. It is common for most programs to add themselves to the startup list, causing your computer to waste resources and perhaps run slowly. This section shows you how to control, change, manage and disable Startup programs in Windows 11/10. Task Manager, WMIC, MSCONFIG, GPEDIT, Task Scheduler, Settings, free startup manager software etc. Stop applications from opening or running at boot using

To disable startup programs in Windows 11/10, do the following:

  1. Right click on the Taskbar
  2. Choose Task Management to open
  3. Click on more details
  4. Then select the Startup tab
  5. Here you can select the action and press the Disable button.

Windows 11 Printer is slow or not working at all

Windows 11 users may experience some printer problems in general – the printer does not work at all, the printer works but very slowly, the printer does not print in color. If your printer does not work with Windows 11, you need to uninstall and reinstall the current driver or client. However, if your printer is running very slowly, you may need to hard reset the printer, check printer preferences, restart the Printer Spooler service, etc. must. If your printer is not printing in color, it is a relatively rare problem. All you have to do is check the print settings in the printer properties.

Windows 11 is draining battery fast

If Windows 11 is draining the battery faster than Windows 10 or any other older operating system, you can do a few things to fix this problem. For example, you can turn on Battery Saver Mode, check battery usage by apps to find out which app consumes more battery, Troubleshoot Power issues, etc. You can also follow this guide to fix battery drain issue in Windows 11. The most important thing is the number of hardware and apps you use every day. If you use several heavy applications at the same time, you will definitely drain your battery faster.

Does Windows 11 have compatibility issues?

As of now, there are no applications that have compatibility issues with Windows 11. All apps compatible with Windows 10 and some other older versions are also compatible with Windows 11. However, if an app has been made for a particular version. You may experience a slight lag when running on Windows 11.
